Assessing Governance Processes
“Thanks again for speaking. I think it was one of the most eye opening topics (“Assessing Governance Processes”) and delivery I’ve heard in a while.” ~ Lora Worthy, Internal Audit Manager;

Description
Tracing transactions is concrete. Assessing governance processes is less so, and more like nailing Jell-O in place. What is governance anyway, and, “Can I recognize it when I see it?” What constitutes good governance of the kind that will advance my organization’s success? What are the signs of good governance gone awry? What is “governance creep” and how can we prevent it?
In this session you will explore the policy writing that frames a governance structure. Excerpts of a model governance manual will be provided. Receive a pro-forma checklist to assess the correlation of practices to policies. Learn steps you can take to uncover inadvertent obfuscation that can stifle progress.
Participants will:
- Have the beginnings of an audit program to tackle this slippery area of governance assessment.
- Possess a clear understanding of governance as a leadership structure clarifying board and management roles for harmony and effectiveness.
- Be more confident in taking steps to assess and give feedback to the board on the existing governance process.
Program length
60 – 75 minutes.
